![]() Principal: Michele King ![]() John the Baptist Primary School was founded in 1989 with 86 students. In 2003 it is a four-stream school, with more than 860 students representing 30 nationalities. The main ethnic origins are from Italian, Croatian, South American, Filipino and Vietnamese. At least 87 per cent of students identify with non-English speaking backgrounds, which has an enormous influence on the development and implementation of curriculum in the school, necessitating a language focus across all Key Learning Areas. Currently there are approximately 50 members of staff, including Executive teachers, class teachers, teacher–librarian, Special Education, ESL, Reading Recovery and school support staff. In promoting an increasing awareness and appreciation of the true nature of Christian community, the teachers at John the Baptist aim to value the effort and achievement of each child equally. They encourage all children to strive for excellence by providing a curriculum that is relevant and challenging and that promotes the development of the whole person. In recent years, staff development has focused on policy development in Key Learning Areas of Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, Science and Technology and Creative and Practical Arts. Parents and teachers work closely together. Opportunities for involvement in the school include helping in the classrooms, working with individual students, supervising children on excursions, fundraising, and working with specific projects as the need arises. |
