![]() Principal: Jean Pestana ![]() Mary Immaculate School was established in 1985 in the rapidly developing area of southwestern Sydney. The school is situated between Fairfield and Liverpool and is minutes away from the Parramatta-Liverpool Transitway bus station at Stocklands, Wetherill Park. Mary Immaculate is a K-6 co-educational school with a current enrolment of 625. It is a highly multicultural school with an 80% ethnic population, and there are currently 54 ethnic groups represented in our school community. Most of the students are second and third phase learners. There are 21 classroom teachers with support teachers for Reading Recovery, Language Support, Special Education and Library, There are three clerical assistants in the Office. Our students and teachers also have the support of the itinerant teacher for the Hearing Impaired and we also access the services of the Counsellor from the STAR Program and the HELP Program. The Seasons for Growth Program and the Peer Support Program also operate in the school. There has been a strong focus on Literacy, especially in the areas of Spelling and Reading. In 2004, the school takes on the Language Features of Text Types Project. In 2002, the school piloted the Numeracy Project. There has been strong emphasis on Assessment and Reporting. The Student Portfolio and a new report format were developed and implemented, incorporating the use of technology. In 2003, Year 6 students sat for the Computer Test. Mary Immaculate has an active parent community. The Parent Helper Program has nearly 100 parents assisting throughout the school. Parents also assist with the Canteen, Book Club, Banking, Library and sport. |
