Our Lady of Mt Carmel Primary School, Mt Pritchard is located in an outer Sydney suburb not far from Liverpool. There are 840 students and approximately 60 staff members.
The community celebrated 50 years of schooling last year. When the school began, the largest cultural group was Italian. Today, there is a rich mixture of cultures and this is a feature of our school.
The students themselves are a delight to teach. They are enthusiastic, co-operative and there are few discipline problems. The school provides a rounded curriculum to challenge all students – the Gifted and Talented and those with Special Needs – to help them reach their full potential.
There is a strong network of staff support. Because there are four streams in each grade, staff are given the opportunity to plan and program together. Beginning teachers are supported through a mentor system. There is certainly a spirit of friendliness and generosity among staff.
The school has just completed a building refurbishment program and the community is proud of the new facilities. Classrooms are well positioned and resourced and staff are happy with their comfortable, new staffroom.
The parent group of our school are supportive and appreciative of the dedication of staff. The school has many parent helpers who assist in classrooms and other areas of our campus.
Members of the Parents’ and Friends’ Association work tirelessly in fund raising and social activities, building up the welcoming community spirit that is a precious asset of OLMC.
