![]() Principal: Br Ambrose Payne ![]() LaSalle Catholic College draws its student population from the Bankstown local government area. The current enrolment of 800 is arranged in five streams to Year 10. Years 11 and 12 number 280 students. Bankstown is a highly multicultural community, which is mirrored in the backgrounds of the students at the College. Approximately 45% of students are of Lebanese origin, 35% of Asian (principally Vietnamese) heritage, and 18% are of Middle European, Mediterranean and Eastern European extraction. The College has been successful in building a safe and unified community drawing on the worldwide traditions of the Catholic Church and the De La Salle Brothers. The majority of families speak a language other than English at home. Curriculum offerings cater for academic, trade and school completion pathways. Educationally the College has consolidated its position in the community. Academic standards are reflected in the numbers of students who have gained Distinguished Achiever status in the Higher School Certificate. The College is ranked in the top performers in HSC Mathematics, and was placed fifth in the State Titration Competition in 2003. There is extensive provision for the high proportion of students with learning difficulties through a well-staffed Learning Diversity Unit and a Teaching and Student Learning Coordinator. The College has recently completed an Educational Audit during which the support documentation in terms of programs and other departmental resources was identified as of high quality. There is a range of extra curricular activities including inter school competitive sport. |
