New Features for Schools Placing Advertisements
Posted 9th April, 2006
Over the last few weeks, some new functionality has been developed for teachers.on.net and over the next months there are more new features planned. Click on the link below to see a summary of what schools will see when next logging in:
'MS Word' style advert formatter
When you post a new vacancy you will see a link at the top of the page which will take you to a familiar toolbar at the top of the job description. This will allow you to format your advert descriptions in a similar manner to your word processor. This means that you can change font sizes, bold, italic and justify your description.
Draft advertisements
When you post an advertisement you are now able to nominate if it is a draft advertisement. There is a check box at the bottom of the vacancy form which is checked to make it a draft. This means that the advert does not actually go live but remains in your vacancy list to be proofed or checked before it goes live.
Reminders for vacancies with no deadline
When vacancies are placed with no deadline - either deliberately or by accident - you will be sent a reminder email 30 days after the advert is posted. This will ensure that there are no out of date advertisements on the site. teachers.on.net staff are constantly checking all advertisements so that email reminders are not continually being sent for adverts that are posted deliberately with no deadline (i.e. for ongoing expressions of interest in casual teachers)
Logout button
When you are finished your teachers.on.net session, there is now a logout button at the bottom of the control panel at the top left of the screen. This finalises you teachers.on.net session and ensures that the only way the site can be accessed on your machine is by logging in again.
Separate vacancy 'archive' and 'delete' buttons
There are now separate buttons to 'archive' and 'delete' vacancies.

teachers.on.net working with Government Schools
Posted 29th April, 2005
Teachers.on.net are preferred providers of online advertising to many school groups such as Lutheran Education Australia, State Education Departments and many Catholic Education Offices around the country. For example, last year the ACT Department of Education and Training chose to use teachers.on.net to augment their Level 1 recruitment round. They ran a banner advertisement on the teachers.on.net opening screen and also ran a standard advertisement on the site. Naturally there was a dramatic increase in applicants due to the extra profile that their campaign had by leveraging the tremendous exposure of teachers.on.net. Managing Director of teachers.on.net Simon McGuire says "Its fantastic that many schools and other educational organizations have their own websites well and truly running now. The problem is that that unless they are targeted directly by a teacher, they are not going to be found. We are very proud of our #1 spot on Google for the keywords 'teaching jobs' and we are getting so much traffic coming from Google. This is just one of the reasons that so many schools and education departments want to work with us. Massive exposure."
teachers.on.net has worked very had over the years and have a fantastic reputation in K-12 education. As more and more people turn to the internet the profile and usage of the site can only continue to grow. ITs quick and easy for teachers and schools are saving thousands on old fashioned press advertising.
teachers.on.net continues to deliver results!
Posted 22nd February, 2005
teachers.on.net has been used by many schools for quite a few years. Over this period, these schools have really come to terms with the online medium and realised tremendous savings in advertising costs. Read this recent testimonial from Loretta Ashford - Principal of Tarrington Lutheran Primary School. "We placed an advertisement on teachers.on.net for a Primary Classroom Teacher. We were so inundated with applicants - many of them first class - that we needed to take the advertisement off early! The only place we advertised was teachers.on.net. After a few years using the system we are very happy with it. The cost savings are terrific and I would recommend it to all schools looking for cost effective recruitment practices."

Another testimonial from a long time user...
Posted 12th October, 2004
"Thanks to teachers.on.net, I had an 8 working day turn around on the employment of a new teacher. A teacher resigned on Friday 1st October and the new staff member accepted the Maths/Science position Tuesday 12th October. During that time I contacted her by email, I rang her, I had contact with her referees, our Maths co-ordinator made contact via email, I offered the position by email and she accepted by email. We have today emailed the formal contract. No costly advertising in major newspapers!
This is not the first success story with teachers.on.net. At this stage of the year I check the site (all subjects, all regions) every day so I know who the new additions are! I also email our adverts to suitable applicants. I direct them to our own website where I have listed various websites of interest with regard to teaching in our area."
- Sr Sylvia Williams, St Joseph's College, Mildura
We look forward to hearing more success stories from other schools in the Ballarat Diocese, now that all schools are members.

A recent evaluation of the effectiveness of advertising mediums was recently conducted by teachers.on.net and the Sydney Catholic Education Office. Each school was asked to monitor all candidates and ask them where they saw the initial advertisement. Variously, the press, teachers.on.net and the CEO website were all avenues for advertising. After the evaluation period it was found that over 80% of candidates saw the advertisement on teachers.on.net. Using this information, teachers.on.net and the CEO are working on streamlining an even more effective advertising strategy for the schools that is set to deliver real cost savings into the future.

Press Release Regional Education Gets Online Boost
Posted 2nd February, 2003
REGIONAL EDUCATION GETS ONLINE BOOST
The vital role Schools play in supporting rural and regional Australia has received a boost from the digital age. Teachers visiting an Australian website, Teachers On Net (www.teachers.on.net), will see real-time job advertisements from places as far-flung as Broken Hill or Bourke. The Wilcannia Forbes Catholic Diocese, geographically NSW largest, recognises the advantages of the broadcast power of the Internet. It joins Armidale, Broken Bay (Nothern Beaches/Central coast) and the Sydney Offices of Catholic Education in adopting the internet as a formal part of their recruitment strategy.
Dr Ken Rodwell, Co-ordinator of Schools for the Wilcannia Forbes Diocese, indicated the initiative had its origins in a need to communicate job vacancies efficiently and conveniently. "Within our diocese, covering 52% of the total land area of NSW, I wanted all of our staff to know what was available." Simon McGuire, Managing Director of Teachers On Net says, "…making short or long term teaching vacancies known to the widest possible group of candidates is a communication problem. The Wilcannia Forbes office has solved it cheaply and effectively."
The difficulties of attracting teachers, as with all professionals, to country areas are well known. Dr Rodwell says that the ability to access a wider audience, particularly new graduates was a bonus. He said that the detailed vacancy information he could now provide to this audience in such a directed fashion was a quality outcome for his schools. Simon McGuire, again, added rural and regional schools from all sectors have been early adopters of the technology. “It is quite egalitarian and breaches the country city divide. The vacancies of small rural schools appear side-by-side those of the big city schools for any given search.”

A special teachers.on.net testimonial
Posted 12th October, 2002
teachers.on.net is regularly getting positive feedback from our member schools. The service is working really well for them. The following testimonial is interesting in that it really shows how the Internet can be used to solve real staffing problems.
---
We had a vacancy for a 7 week replacement Maths teacher. I realised that this may be quite a hard position to fill at short notice and that traditional press advertising would be expensive and may not even be effective. For situations like this I turn to teachers.on.net. I placed the advertisement on to the site and was very pleased with the response. Within a short period of time I had an email application from a qualified Maths teacher in South Africa who was looking to relocate to Australia and happened to have all her immigration papers all ready. Permission to Teach clearance was quickly granted by the Registered Schools Board and the appointment was made. The 7 week placement worked out very well and the teachers husband and children have emigrated permanently. teachers.on.net is a valuable service to Australian schools - especially regional schools with hard to fill positions. For a very modest investment, I can be sure that my advertisements are reaching the widest possible online teacher audience and I would endorse it thoroughly.
