The history of Lutheran Education in Geelong dates back to 1854 when the Lutheran Church established a school at Grovedale. This school remained as a Lutheran School until 1868 when it then became State School No. 283 now known as Grovedale Primary School. St Paul’s Lutheran congregation has since established and continues to operate a successful kindergarten at its church site in Grovedale.

In 1962 St John’s Parish commenced a primary school on the former Geelong Grammar site at the corner of Pakington and Aberdeen Streets, Geelong. St John’s School is now a vibrant and well-respected Kindergarten to Year 6 School.

For many years the opportunity to establish a Lutheran secondary educational facility in Geelong has been recognised. The recent trends in education to offer P-12 schooling have intensified the demand placed on Lutheran Education in Geelong to offer secondary education. Geelong Lutheran College commenced at the beginning of 2009. The school site is situated midway between Geelong and Torquay and in the middle of Geelong's urban growth precinct at Armstrong Creek.
