<p>&nbsp;</p> <p align="center"><strong><em>&nbsp;</em></strong></p> <p>The role of Education Officer: Student Wellbeing and Attendance is situated within Educational Services Team at the Catholic Schools Office Broken Bay. The role involves leadership of a system wide strategy that gives priority to school attendance, participation and wellbeing within the diocese. The role will draw on the Pastoral Care and Wellbeing policies of the Diocesan School System as well as contemporary research and best practice in relation to student wellbeing for learning and successful strategies for increasing students&rsquo; school attendance, participation and agency. The successful applicant will be a member of the Student Wellbeing team contributing broadly to the work of the team in service to schools and with a specific focus on attendance.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Key Accountabilities</strong></p> <p align="right">&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Provide leadership in developing proactive frameworks and strategies regarding school attendance that emphasise early notification and clear advice about the importance of student attendance.</li> <li>Work collaboratively with school teams to:</li> </ul> <p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; develop an understanding of underlying factors that impact on student attendance.</p> <p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; build capability and confidence in developing proactive strategies to improve student attendance, participation and agency.</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to improve student wellbeing and attendance e.g. school leaders, students, families, counsellors, family liaison officers and health professionals.</li> <li>Contribute to the system strategic directions of parent engagement, strengthening parent-school partnerships, and communication channels related to student wellbeing and attendance.</li> <li>Assist school teams in their case management of chronic non-attendance.</li> <li>Provide advice on reporting requirements to government agencies related to attendance compliance matters.</li> <li>Support students, families and schools to meet attendance compliance requirements.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Essential criteria</strong></p> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>The above position requires a successful applicant with:</li> <li>A demonstrated commitment to the Catholic ethos and worldview of the Broken Bay system of schools including upholding the dignity of the human person.</li> <li>Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.</li> <li>A thorough understanding of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and the Education Act 1990.</li> <li>Knowledge of the issues that relate to school refusal and the mental health of young people and children.</li> <li>Mediation and communication skills and the ability to manage challenging conversations, representing the interests of the child, and the school system.</li> <li>Ability to manage case conferences to implement and review attendance improvement plans.</li> <li>Tertiary qualifications in education, Social Work, Psychology, Law or related discipline and eligibility for appropriate professional membership.</li> <li>A capacity to analyse and interpret a range of data associated with attendance at school and system level and utilise digital tools to track and report on trends.</li> <li>Highly developed skills in the communication and presentation of current and emerging patterns to different audiences in relation to attendance and wellbeing.</li> <li>Ability to represent the Broken Bay Catholic School System in matters that go to court with the assistance of the Department of Education and Catholic Schools NSW.</li> </ul>
