<p>About Tiwi College and Melville Island </p><p>Located at Pickataramoor on Melville Island, Tiwi College is an exciting and dynamic secondary boarding school initiated and governed by the Tiwi people to provide quality education for the young Tiwi. The college caters for holistic learning; helping the young Tiwi become &#34;work ready&#34;. At Tiwi College, the life skills learned in the Boarding Homes are valued as highly as the academic programs. </p><p>A weekly boarding school, where students are dropped off on a Monday and picked up on a Friday, the school is the community of Pickataramoor. The school currently has over 60 students and 30 staff consisting of Teachers, Tiwi Assistant Teachers, Tiwi Academy staff, Boarding Home staff, Hospitality staff, Maintenance Coordinator and Groundsman. It is a very close-knit community and as a relatively new school, Tiwi College is well resourced for both staff and students. </p><p>Melville Island, part of the Tiwi Islands, lies in the eastern Timor Sea, off the coast of the Northern Territory, Australia. It is west of the Cobourg Peninsula in Arnhem Land and north of Darwin, with a tropical climate. Second only to Tasmania in area, it has a population of just 800 people. As a result, the tropical wilderness and secluded beaches are readily accessible, with most staff enjoying weekend camping and fishing. </p><p>Are you ready for a career change that inspires? </p><p>Tiwi College now has multiple rewarding opportunity for teachers to join their team on a full-time basis. </p><p>What you need to succeed </p><p>To be successful in this position, you will be a tertiary qualified teacher with registration to teach in the NT and NT Working with Children Card or the ability to obtain this registration prior to commencement. </p><p>Tiwi College is looking for an empathetic, resilient and caring people that are flexible in their thinking and approach and can adapt to changing circumstances. You will have a genuine desire to listen to and build real relationships with the young people in your care and the greater community, ensuring parents feel welcome and involved in their children&#39;s progress. </p><p>You will be willing and able to work in an alternative education space and have an understanding of trauma-informed practice and support restorative practice. You will be a confident and effective communicator and be able to engage with diverse groups of multicultural staff and students. Ideally, you will have an understanding of or experience with Indigenous communities or Indigenous education. </p><p>Most importantly, you will need to be a passionate educator whose values align with the school&#39;s. </p><p><br /></p>
