<p><strong>St Mary’s Catholic School, Wellington<br>Co-educational, Years 7-12<br>Temporary, Part Time (60 hours/fortnight) <br>Commencing: Immediately to the end of Term 4 2024</strong></p> <p><strong><br>About the Role<br><em>This is an identified position ie this position is open to people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.</em></strong></p> <p>Note: Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified positions are genuine occupational qualified positions under section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977</p> <p>We have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Education Officer to join the team at St Mary’s Catholic School in Wellington.</p> <p>Reporting directly to the Principal, and accountable to the Education Officer: Leader of Aboriginal Education, the Aboriginal Education Officer performs a wide range of duties. These duties may consist of (but not limited to):</p> <ul> <li>To act as an intermediary and contact person for Aboriginal students and families within the school and school system</li> <li>To assist the teaching staff in achieving targets and meeting outcomes outlined in school and diocesan strategic plans in response to the Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander National Education Strategy (2015) to accelerate improvements in educational outcomes for Aboriginal students and young people</li> <li>To support schools in ensuring that the curriculum is culturally inclusive across all Key Learning Areas (KLAs)</li> <li>To assist the Principal and School Executive by providing support for Aboriginal families to resolve student pastoral care issues</li> <li>To provide encouragement and emotional support for Aboriginal students.</li> </ul> <p><strong>About You<br></strong>The new Aboriginal Education Officer will be aligned with the following selection criteria:</p> <ul> <li>Provide confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.&nbsp;</li> <li>Demonstrate understanding of and sincere commitment to the aims and philosophy of Catholic Education, including the values of social justice, equity and reconciliation.</li> <li>Demonstrate an appropriate level of skill in literacy and numeracy especially as it relates to assisting students.&nbsp;</li> <li>Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team to cater for the needs of Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander students.&nbsp;</li> <li>Demonstrate knowledge of educational issues that affect Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander students.&nbsp;</li> <li>Demonstrate links with the local Aboriginal community.&nbsp;</li> <li>Demonstrate ability to promote and celebrate Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander traditions and culture within the whole school.</li> <li>Provide proof of at least 5 years workplace experience.</li> </ul> <p><strong>About Our Offer<br></strong>Our staff are valued and enjoy the many benefits of working with Catholic Education, Diocese of Bathurst.&nbsp; Some benefits include:</p> <ul> <li>Positive, engaging, and supportive culture</li> <li>Salary packaging available</li> <li>Be paid throughout the whole year, with school holidays off</li> <li>An organisation who is committed to fostering professional growth and provides various opportunities for ongoing training and development</li> <li>St Mary's sense of unity and shared activities contribute to a strong community spirit</li> <li>The town's tranquil atmosphere and natural beauty create a peaceful living environment</li> </ul> <p><strong><br>About Us<br></strong>The Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst (CEDB) is responsible for 33 schools, approximately 9,600 students and 1,700 staff.
