We acknowledge that Mt St John’s resides on the lands of the Gumbaynggir people, the traditional custodians of this land.</p> <p dir="ltr" style="font-family: Arial">Dorrigo is a quiet rural town surrounded by rich agricultural lands which are predominantly used for farming. The area is noted for its large number of waterfalls, bushwalks and National Parks. Students at Mt St John’s are drawn from the local area including North Dorrigo, Megan, Ebor, Bostobrick and Dundarrabin. At Mt St John’s, the staff have high expectations and a core belief that all students can learn given the right time and support.&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt">The Aboriginal Education Worker will also act as a role model for students by encouraging them to take pride in all aspects of their schooling.</span></p> <p dir="ltr" style="text-align: center">&nbsp;&nbsp;_____________________________________________________________________</p> <p dir="ltr" style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 24pt; color: #006A8E">Aboriginal Education Worker&nbsp;(Identified Position)</span></strong></p> <p dir="ltr" style="text-align: center">Part time, temporary position, 12 hours per week, commencing 29 April 2024</p> <p dir="ltr" style="text-align: center">_______________________________________________________________________</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Role will include:</strong></p> <ul> <li dir="ltr">Working with the school leadership team to implement the Diocesan Action Plan for the Education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including:&nbsp;</li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Acting as a role model for students by encouraging them to take pride in all aspects of their schooling and their cultural identity.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Promoting a sense of welcome and belonging, so that all in the school community will gain greater respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ culture and each child will be provided with educational opportunities that are rich, fulfilling and promote a love of God.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Supporting the school to understand and show respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s knowledge, skills and traditions to build and maintain relationships that are based on mutual respect and reconciliation.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Raising expectations and enhancing the quality of student learning for all students by supporting the development of individualised plans that include cultural, curriculum and career goals.&nbsp;</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Developing a partnership with the local Aboriginal community, families and the school to create and promote a school environment that respects and values local Aboriginal cultures and protocols.<br><br></p> </li> </ul> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Essential Criteria:</strong></p> <ul> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (documented confirmation of Aboriginality is a requirement at interview).
