The Paralegal position provides high quality support to the In-House Legal Counsel, in the provision of legal services, including:</p> <ul> <li>demonstrating an understanding of and commitment to the mission of Catholic Education;</li> <li>undertaking a range of high-level administrative activities to provide effective support to CEDoW’s legal function, enabling the function to operate efficiently and effectively;</li> <li>liaising with internal stakeholders seeking legal advice by gathering key information, setting expectations regarding service delivery, and briefing the In-House Legal Counsel;</li> <li>triaging and prioritising requests for legal advice;</li> <li>assisting with legal research using a range of resources;</li> <li>contributing to the preparation of draft legal advices, correspondence, and other legal documentation;</li> <li>maintaining legal records including file creation and management;</li> <li>preparing and producing subpoena materials and addressing requests for information, with assistance from the Legal/Policy Assistant;</li> <li>engaging with external law firms, courts and regulatory bodies, as required;</li> <li>communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders of varying levels of seniority, within the Catholic Education Office, CEDoW schools, the Office of the Bishop, and external stakeholders;</li> <li>providing quarterly reporting and data analysis on CEDoW’s Legal function; and</li> <li>supporting the In-House Legal Counsel in maintaining current and relevant policies and procedures relating to Legal subject-matter.</li> </ul> <p><strong>ABOUT YOU</strong></p> <p>The purpose of this position is to support CEDoW’s In-House Legal Counsel in the management of legal matters, the provision of high-quality in-house legal advice and services, and risk mitigation to support CEDoW’s strategic and operational goals.</p> <p><strong>Selection Criteria:</strong></p> <ul> <li>A commitment to supporting the mission and purpose of Catholic education.&nbsp;</li> <li>Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload, manage legal files, and demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, show autonomy and initiative, and meet tight deadlines.</li> <li>Ability to conduct legal research and draft and proof-read legal documents with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with a breadth of relevant contacts within service areas and schools, and external stakeholders as required, with a high degree of professionalism.</li> <li>Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate in plain English and maintain accurate and timely administrative records, advice records and file notes.</li> <li>Excellent Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications and Experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Law degree and/or substantial paralegal experience.</li> <li>Experience supporting an in-house legal team is desirable.</li> <li>Experience in a legal setting in an educational system is desirable.</li> </ul> <p><strong>WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE</strong></p> <p>This role is classified as child related work and therefore we require a working with children clearance to be completed prior to your commencement with us.</p> <p><strong>POSITION APPLICATION</strong></p> <p>Applicants are to complete an online application which asks you to provide a copy of your CV and to address the ‘Selection Criteria’ and ‘Qualifications and Experience’.
