This is a middle management role within the College’s structure. The Head of Learning Area –Mathematics has responsibility for the curriculum and its delivery to students in Years 7-12, works collaboratively with the College’s Curriculum Board and the Deputy Principal – Teaching and Learning, and leads a vibrant team of Mathematics teachers.

Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for promoting a curriculum in Upper School that meets the requirements of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority and one in Lower School that is guided by the requirements of the Western Australian Curriculum. The Head of Learning Area – Mathematics is responsible for the assessment policy and ensures that it is understood by staff, students and parents. As part of this role the Head of Learning Area records and monitors student progress, ensures consistency with regards to the assessing of work, conducts regular meetings with the Mathematics Department Staff and is responsible for all aspects of the teaching and learning that occur within this Learning Area. The Head of Learning Area – Mathematics nurtures the development of the Department’s staff members, offering particular attention to teachers who are new to Nagle Catholic College and to teaching. In addition to the duties that will be outlined in detail on the Duty Statement, there is a teaching component. The incumbent would be expected to be highly proficient in their content knowledge and their teaching This position carries a teaching load of 18 periods a week. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: - Provide leadership and mentorship of all staff in their faculty. - Create opportunities for all staff to contribute and develop their professional expertise. - Monitor delivery of the curriculum, ensure its relevance and be cognisant of relevant changes in the National Curriculum. - Lead all examinations assessments and reporting in the Department. - Determine and recommend suitable professional development opportunities for staff in the Department. - Ensure excursions, incursions and visiting performances are relevant and support student learning. - Coordinate faculty book lists. - Lead the Performance Management of all staff in the faculty. - Stay abreast of current trends and thinking in education, especially in regards to teaching and learning. - Be supportive of the ethos and values of the School. - Contribute to the co-curricular program in the School. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum of a Diploma of Education (Mathematics or equivalent major) - Current registration with Teachers Registration Board WA - Current Working with Children Check - Minimum 5 years classroom teaching experience - Accreditation to teach in a Catholic School Selection Criteria Our selection criteria are based on the seven Teacher Standards outlined by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
