We expect our teachers to be committed to their own professional development and to want to make a contribution to the broader educational community. </p><p>We view classroom teaching as a clinical practice, whereby teachers refine their skills and reflect on their own performance through the annual Wenona Improvement Cycle. This includes observed practice of our teaching by our colleagues and 360-degree feedback for all teachers. </p><p>Wenona supports both academic and support staff to develop their expertise through initiatives such as Wenona Teaching Fellowships, Seeding Grants and ongoing outstanding professional learning that develops and supports career development into the future. </p><p>This parental leave cover position is currently planned to commence in Term 3, 2021 and conclude at the end of Term 4, 2022. However, these dates may change due to the nature of the leave. </p><h4>Key Responsibilities </h4><ul><li>Guide students to become information literate citizens through facilitation of a guided inquiry scope and sequence across the curriculum.</li><li>Facilitate and support the learning and teaching needs of students and staff by actively engaging with classroom teachers and departments in identifying areas of potential collaboration./</li><li>Continuously develop the Library collection and promote independent thought and a love of reading alongside academic and Library staff.</li><li>Have an innovative and enthusiastic approach to libraries, reading and information seeking.</li><li>Provide a welcoming, dynamic and flexible environment and engaging lessons that encourage reading, learning and creative thinking for students using a broad range of resources and media.</li><li>Be proactive in responding to users’ changing needs and effectively manage users’ expectations. Provide training and assistance to students and staff in the effective use of systems and information retrieval processes.</li><li>Support and implement School and Library wide policies, and undertake tasks and responsibilities as request by the Head of Library and Information Services.</li><li>Work collaboratively with Library and academic staff to identify, evaluate and select appropriate resources to complement units of study within specific subject areas.</li><li>Collaboratively with the Head of Library and Information Services regularly review the Library collection to ensure relevancy to curriculum, staff and students and weed collection as required</li><li>Proactively develop and implement strategies, programs, events and activities to foster and support reading and literacy across the curriculum, in response to internal and external events, and to develop in students and staff a love of literature and habits of lifelong reading.</li><li>Use a variety of selection tools to identify current trends in resources and literature and provide a user centred approach to information delivery and dissemination.</li><li>Working as part of the Library team, ensure the day to day operation and administration of the Library is efficient and all systems, resources and equipment are well maintained. This will also include shelving books, acquisition and processing of materials and ensuring the organisation of resources and spaces is conducive to the smooth operation of the Library as a learning space.</li><li>Maintain an awareness of contemporary practices in areas relevant to this position and critically assess processes and activities, identify opportunities for improvement in service, efficiency and effectiveness and implement as appropriate.</li></ul><h4>Key Selection Criteria </h4><ul><li>Qualifications and experience in Teacher Librarianship / Education.</li><li>Ability to teach and aspire to the standards articulated in the Wenona Effective Teaching Cycle</li><li>Strong knowledge of NESA curriculum, HSC assessment practices and marking processes, including developments with Australian Curriculum implementation in NSW.</li><li>A commitment to pastoral care and meeting the social and emotional wellbeing needs of students.</li><li>An ongoing commitment to professional learning, including making a contribution to the broader education community.</li><li>An understanding of and commitment to the educational needs of young women.</li><li>A commitment to collaborative teaching practices and an ability to contribute to a team and faculty of professional educators.</li><li>A willingness to contribute to the broader life of the school community.</li><li>An ability to use ICT to facilitate and enrich student learning and engagement beyond the classroom.</li></ul><h4>Education and Experience</h4><ul><li>Tertiary qualifications in Education (Training)</li><li>Eligibility for professional membership to ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) working towards eligibility</li><li>Experience teaching 7 – 10 English would be desirable.</li><li>NESA Accreditation</li><li>NSW Working with Children Check</li></ul><h4>Personal Attributes </h4><ul><li>Excellent communication skills, with an ability to engage and communicate with all stakeholders including students, parents and staff.</li><li>Ability to be solutions focused and data-driven in all decision making.</li><li>Desire to use flexibility and creativity in day-to-day activities.</li><li>A sense of humour.</li></ul><h4>General conditions of the role </h4><ul><li><b>Award &amp; Classification</b>: Independent Schools NSW/ACT Standards Model (Teacher’s) MEA 2017.</li><li><b>Hours of work: </b>Temporary, Full-Time.</li><li><b>Reporting Line:</b> All positions report to the Principal.</li><li><b>The line manager for this position is</b>: Head of Library and Information Services</li><li><b>Professional Learning</b>: You will be expected to attend and contribute to all staff professional development days and requirements as outlined in the School’s calendar.</li><li><b>Other duties:</b> In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will be required to participate in other areas of the School including playground duties, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and school camps. This role involves the application of discipline and participation in the School’s program for wellbeing.
