<p>We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified School Counsellor on a permanent basis commencing at the beginning of the 2022 school year. Reporting to the Coordinator of Counselling Services, you will be an active member of the College Wellbeing Team and work within a small team of counsellors focused on supporting our students and families with their individual needs through psychosocial assessment, appropriate counselling interventions, case management and referral to appropriate external services.</p><p><b>Permanent full time position commencing 27 January 2022. </b></p><p> </p><p>With an extensive knowledge on appropriate referral pathways, you will be flexible to the changing needs of the school day, responding to issues as they arise. Key to your success in this role will be your ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with students, staff, parents and visitors and be able to work independently, intuitively and flexibly. </p><p>To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate you satisfy all of the following essential selection criteria: </p><p><b>Essential </b></p><ul><li>Relevant Counselling tertiary qualifications including Psychologist (with APHRA registration) or Social Worker (with eligibility for AASW membership). </li><li>Minimum 5 years post qualification experience, ideally in a child and family focused environment and / or mental health environment. </li><li>The ability to manage the legal, ethical and organisational requirements of a counselling role within an educational setting. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge and experience of psychosocial assessment, appropriate counselling interventions and case management appropriate for a busy educational setting. </li><li>Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice, together with understanding of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting obligations. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills and a capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. </li><li>Ability to effectively respond to high level urgent, confidential and complex matters with empathy, discretion and exceptional professionalism. </li></ul><p><b>Desirable </b></p><ul><li>Experience in a school context. </li></ul><p><b>How to apply </b></p><p>To express your interest in joining our highly motivated professional staff, apply via the online &#39;Career Application&#39; available on our website <a href="https://www.spc.nsw.edu.au/working-spc/" rel="nofollow">https://www.spc.nsw.edu.au/working-spc/</a> </p><p>Your application should consist of: </p><p><b>1.Cover letter </b>(maximum 2 pages) that highlights your claim for the role and demonstrates your suitability by addressing the following two target questions: </p><p><b>(a) </b>What do you think would be the biggest challenge working with Adolescent males as a Counsellor and how would you manage this challenge?</p><p><b>(b) </b>Outline how your knowledge and experience would meet the needs of a busy educational setting?</p><p><b>2.Current CV</b> (maximum 5 pages) outlining your qualifications, experience and skills together with the contact information for three (3) referees (at least two must be from your current employer). </p><p>All applications should be addressed to The Principal (MS Word and PDF attachments are preferred). </p><p>A commitment to the Catholic ethos of a school in the Edmund Rice tradition and a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance are essential conditions of employment.</p><p>Evidence of a valid WWCC clearance and compliance with the current Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Education and Care Workers) Order 2021 will be required prior to employment.</p><p> </p><p>St Patrick’s College is a child safe and child-centred organisation, committed to the protection of children and has zero-tolerance of any abuse of children.
