The General Assistant’s central responsibility is to support and assist learning priorities in the areas of Food and Hospitality as well as Science. They are also entrusted with the upkeep of resources, maintenance of areas and cleanliness of spaces. This role has a learning towards Food and Hospitality duties with a view that it will become entirely focused on Food and Hospitality from the Term 2, 2023 when our new facilities are completed.

As a ‘next generation Catholic Learning Community’ we are designing and establishing the ‘new normal’ for preschool to post school learning in an environment characterised by a flexible, stage based curriculum which nurtures and grows faith-filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world. In 2023 we will enrol over 1650 students from Kindergarten to Year 11 in addition to 77 children per day in our long day centre with our first HSC cohort due to graduate in 2023.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Role Overview</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">The General Assistant’s central responsibility is to support and assist learning priorities in the areas of Food and Hospitality as well as Science. This role has a learning towards Food and Hospitality duties with a view that it will become entirely focused on Food and Hospitality from the Term 2, 2023 when our <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnBCQUq0i1c">new facilities</a> are completed.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Role Requirements</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">Employees are to support the teachings and ethos of the Catholic Church’s work in schools by demonstrating:&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, with the ability to translate these skills into technical concepts and written technical and support documentation.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Skills and ability to train students and/or staff in the use of equipment and safety procedures.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Ability to abide by health and safety responsibilities.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Ability to follow direction, prioritise and meet set deadlines</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Interpersonal skills in working with a range of personnel</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Strong planning and organisation skills</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Ability to maintain the quality of assigned work.</p> </li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Duties - Food and Hospitality</strong></p> <ul> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Ordering, receiving and storing of materials and resources required for practical lessons.&nbsp;</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Ensure equipment and food is prepared in advance and available for the commencement of all classes.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Set out food for each practical activity including the portioning of foods according to the recipe.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of all kitchen, equipment and storage areas.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Prepare resources required for teacher demonstration.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Clean out the fridge and freezers regularly.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Record and change recipes using basic computer skills.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Assist extracurricular activities in the School such as charity cooking or sample lessons.</p> </li> </ul> <ul> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">At the end of each term</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: circle"> <p dir="ltr">Complete cleaning of bays and preparation kitchen including cleaning stoves and ovens.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: circle"> <p dir="ltr">Check equipment for damage and make sure all electrical equipment has been tagged.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: circle"> <p dir="ltr">Clean cupboards, drawers, sinks, microwaves and chopping boards.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: circle"> <p dir="ltr">Record equipment that may be damaged.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: circle"> <p dir="ltr">Maintaining and updating student allergy information.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: circle"> <p dir="ltr">Any other duty as directed by the principal or their delegate.</p> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Duties - Science.</strong> Liaise with the Science Lab Assistant for:</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Ordering, receiving and storing of materials and resources&nbsp; to support learning.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Preparation of materials and resources required for general and complex laboratory experiments.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Preparing simple chemical solutions and, under instruction, more complicated solutions.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Use appropriate storage systems consistent with material safety data sheets.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Any other duty as directed by the principal or their delegate.</p> </li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Typical Experience and Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Qualifications in the relevant area of study.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Appropriate demonstrated experience in a school or similar setting.</p> </li> <li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type: disc"> <p dir="ltr">Awareness of all WHS requirements.</p> </li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">&nbsp;</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Please Note:</strong> The role is an Enterprise Agreement (EA) classified position at SAS Level 4, 76 hours per fortnight. The exact start and finish times will be negotiated with the successful applicant at the time of appointment.
