Brigidine College is seeking an Assistant Head of Science Department who is an enthusiastic, talented teaching professional possessing the desire to deepen student understanding and growth, and to create a progressive 21st century learning environment. This is a full time permanent one (1) point coordinator position commencing Term 4 2022 or upon negotiation with the College Principal.

<p>Brigidine College is seeking to appoint an Assistant Head of Science Department. </p><p>The Assistant Head of Science Department plays an essential role in creating a vibrant and courageous learning community. This position will attract a capable and creative educator who has a passion for innovative leadership and improved student engagement. This position has responsibilities both as a teacher of Science and as a pedagogical leader. </p><p>The Assistant Head of Department works closely with the Head of Department – Science to motivate, encourage and inspire the development of a strong, effective and innovative teaching team that operates ethically, with a clear focus on providing opportunities for every girl to reach her full potential. The role is responsible for supporting innovation within the faculty to enable the delivery of high quality, authentic and rigorous learning experiences for our students at Brigidine College, Randwick. </p><p>As a Teacher, this position works in collaboration within the Science Department to facilitate learning within a collaborative environment to cultivate in students learning dispositions of curiosity, collaboration, open-mindedness, accountability, empathy and self-awareness. </p><p>The successful applicant will: </p><ul><li>Possess exceptional teaching skills and have a sound understanding of the requirements of the curriculum </li><li>Work collaboratively and effectively with students, staff and parents </li><li>Possess a commitment to high expectations for the learning and achievement of all students </li><li>Demonstrate ongoing personal, professional growth </li><li>Be able to effectively use technology as part of the curriculum </li><li>Be able to empower students to be independent and creative learners </li><li>Demonstrate effective classroom management skills </li><li>Contribute to the effectiveness and quality of the Science team </li><li>Be committed to ongoing personal and professional learning formation and growth </li><li>Orchestrate lessons to maximise learning for all students </li><li>Differentiate learning tasks to cater to students with identified needs </li><li>A commitment to the Catholic ethos of the College is an essential condition of employment</li></ul><p><b>Key Selection Criteria </b>- applicants are to address the following essential criteria in their application: </p><ul><li>Giving active leadership and supporting the Head of Science in contemporary learning practices across all Science courses.</li><li>Demonstrated deep passion for Science</li><li>Facilitating the ongoing development of differentiated pedagogy and assessment which is informed by evidence-based approaches and the skilled use of data.</li><li>Contributing to improved teaching and learning in Science by modelling differentiated pedagogy and reflective classroom practices as well as facilitating staff professional development in best practice teaching skills and content knowledge.</li><li>With the Head of Science, facilitate the ongoing development of best-practice pedagogy.</li><li>Have robust knowledge of the syllabuses Science Stages 4 – 6.  </li><li>Promoting teacher professionalism and encouraging positive staff morale by contributing to and initiating processes for team building.</li><li>Developing, evaluating and revising department policies and practices which comply with Brigidine College, Sydney Catholic Schools and NESA legislative requirements and guidelines;</li><li>Supporting the Head of Science in implementing an annual review of key results and utilising a professional interpretation of external data.</li><li>Providing sound leadership and administration assistance of the department in a way that is credible and consistent.</li><li>Collaborating with colleagues to build genuine and professional relationships and to promote shared commitment and a sense of alignment with College strategic directions.</li><li>Demonstrated good team leadership skills: including approachability; listening skills; conflict resolution; exercising sound judgement; and showing initiative</li><li>Strong organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise tasks, meet prescribed deadlines and concurrently manage a number of competing tasks</li><li>Excellent communication skills (written and oral)</li></ul><p>This position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain a valid Working with Children Clearance. </p><p>Applications should include: </p><ul><li>Cover application letter of one (1) page addressed to the Principal, Mrs Sharyn Quirk </li><li>Written response addressing the <u>Key Selection Criteria</u> in a maximum of five (5) pages </li><li>A statement of your educational philosophy </li><li>A current curriculum vitae/resume outlining teaching, leadership and other experience relevant to the position </li><li>Contact details for three (3) referees </li><li>NESA registration number </li><li>Employee ID registration number with Sydney Catholic Schools or a commitment to obtaining one prior to interview </li></ul><p> </p><p><b>CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: Friday 19 August 2022</b></p><p>Please email your application to: </p><ul><li>Mrs Sharyn Quirk (Principal)</li><li> Email: principal&#64;bcrandwick.catholic.edu.au </li></ul><p>Sydney Catholic Schools is committed to ensuring the safety of our staff, students and school communities.
