The Catholic Schools Officer (CSO) is seeking a temporary part-time (0.2 FTE) Mission and Justice Officer.

The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated personnel for the temporary position of Mission and Justice Officer.<br>This position is part-time (0.2 FTE)&nbsp;on a temporary contract between October 2022 to December 2024.&nbsp; Should the successful application be a teacher who holds a substantive position within a school in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, this will be treated as a secondment with the right to return to your substantive position on completion.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is responsible for the leadership, operation and management of systemic schools that educate more than 19,000 students in 46 Primary schools, 12 Secondary schools and one K–12 school in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.<br><br><br><head3><b>POSITION DESCRIPTION</b></head3><br><br>The Catholic Mission – Mission and Justice Officer will work in collaboration with both Catholic Mission and the Catholic Schools Office Maitland-Newcastle. They are entrusted with the responsibility to assist staff, students and the wider faith community in making sense of their world, to make informed decisions and judgements, and to act with moral and ethical integrity.&nbsp;<br><br>With the Plenary Council of the Australian Church underway, a local Synod occurring in the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese, and Pope Francis issuing a call for greater ‘synodality’ throughout the Church, this unique and innovative position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to be at the forefront of helping shape, nurture and sustain Catholic identity across the primary and secondary schools of the diocese.<br><br>The appointment also seeks to harness the individual experience, wisdom, talents and professional capacity and networks of the candidate, at a time when the Catholic Church, its schools, and agencies such as Catholic Mission are adapting to life in a pandemic and the resultant increased use of technology and digital environments.&nbsp;<br><br>Across the diocese, the person in this role will work against the backdrop of the Catholic Schools Office’s Catholic Identity Improvement Tool; the Strategic Plan of Catholic Mission; and a range of writings from Pope Francis.&nbsp;<br><br>The following outcomes adopt aspects of the Catholic Mission Strategic Plan, particularly its focus on different horizons, including seeking to foster a ‘mission-inspired identity’, aspiring to embrace ‘person-centred engagement’ and looking to create a culture of mission formation.<br><br>The outcomes that Catholic Mission hopes this position will achieve include:<br><li>Animated young people, especially leaders in church and other communities to be involved in our mission activities as opportunities of action for global justice grounded in faith.<br></li><li>A reviewed branding and digital presence, including the launch of further creative responses to new societal and church contexts.<br></li><li>An increase of engagement of donors, supporters and young people.<br></li><li>Mission-inspired formation for our schools, agencies and wider diocesan community.<br><br>Strategies towards achieving these outcomes will see the successful candidate be a part of a review of Catholic Mission’s branding. The Catholic Mission – Mission and Justice Officer might also be invited to contribute to an annual audit of research on emerging trends in the Australian Catholic Church.</li>
