Possibility of extension depending on school needs next year. </p><p>Working under the supervision of a teacher, your role will be to provide support and facilitation of learning to students, assisting on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas. One of these positions will also encompass a 0.2 fraction as an administrative role supporting the Director of Learning, Enhancement and Support. </p><p>JOB RESPONSIBILITIES </p><p>The LSO provides support for the students in the following ways: </p><p>Academic learning </p><p>Work in partnership with teachers to support student learning. This may include implementing aspects of learning plans and learning goals according to the needs of the student. </p><p>Maintain regular communication, at least once a cycle, with the subject teacher for the students the LSO is assigned to, in order to support learning. This can be conducted in various forums, including face to face and online. </p><p>Be aware of and involved in the planning of units of work to ensure that students with additional needs are being highlighted and advocated for </p><p>LSO’s are responsible for communication of student progress reports that are submitted once a cycle to the Director of Learning Enhancement and Support. Feedback will include comments on tasks, behaviour, work habits, performance and goals. </p><p>Support the students to build capacity in skills and knowledge as outlined by the teacher operating within the particular pedagogical framework e.g. MYP, VCE, VCAL </p><p>The expectation is for LSO’s to be present for the duration of the lesson, unless instructed otherwise by the Director of Learning Enhancement and Support, not the teacher. </p><p>Attendance and active facilitation of Homework Club as rostered by the Director of Learning Enhancement and Support </p><p>Perform clerical tasks such as editing and photocopying associated with the adjustment of materials. </p><p>Assist, where appropriate, with transition planning for students moving into and out of secondary education </p><p>Be aware of College day to day operations, process and/or procedures to assist parents, staff, students and others with any queries. </p><p>Management of Behaviours </p><p>Help the student manage behaviours that arise </p><p>Observe and report symptoms/ triggers of particular students in their care that manifest within a lesson to the Director of Enhancement and Support/ Village Leader </p><p>LSO’s are to attend their assigned lesson punctually. </p><p>3. Physical Needs </p><p>In consultation between the Learning Support Leader and LSO, decide the involvement of the LSO to support the physical needs of students. This will be informed by the PSG and as agreed to by Parents, Guardians, Carers and recommendations by medical specialists. </p><p>4. Other </p><p>  1. LSO’s are to fulfil duties of student support outside the classroom eg: attending excursions, whole school events when required. </p><p>  2. Assist with assessment and exam supervision when required. </p><p>  3. Attend all regular team and staff meetings along with Domain and PSG meetings as required by the Director of Learning Enhancement and support. </p><p>SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE </p><p>Certificate in School Based Education Support (desirable) </p><p>Excellent communication both written and verbal. </p><p>Rapport building skills, with the ability to deal with challenging behaviours firmly but politely. </p><p>First Aid, Level 1 qualifications desirable. </p><p>Undertake finely detailed work in a precise and accurate manner. </p><p>Demonstrates commitment to the objectives of the work area, the College and students. </p><p>Be personable and pastoral in all interactions with staff, parents and students. </p><p>Able to undertake a number of different tasks simultaneously, ensuring the most important tasks are completed in line with agreed expectations about timeliness, quality and resource use. </p><p>Cooperate effectively within a team and work collaboratively to achieve work plan and goals. </p><p>Hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Record Check </p><p>A demonstrated understanding of child safety and understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children. </p><p>Experience in secondary schools would be beneficial. </p><p>Support for the College&#39;s Catholic vision, beliefs and educational tradition </p><p>A commitment to confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information </p><p>The successful candidate must be on site for all non-teaching days, such as: Correction Days, Online reporting period, Family Interview days). </p><p>COMMITMENT TO CHILD SAFETY </p><p>All students enrolled, and any child visiting Santa Maria College, have a right to feel safe and be safe.
