Early Childhood Educators
Contract Type: Permanent/Ongoing Position Full Time
Applications Close: 8 December 2023
Looking for a tribe that resonates with your love for working alongside children and other adults? We are looking for educators interested in internships, full-time or part-time roles, in 2023 and in 2024. Experience researching alongside children and documenting children's learning processes, through shared projects, would be highly valued.

Have you retained your sense of wonder about how the world works? Love the challenge of investigating the unknown? Keen to explore and research that world alongside children? See your role as provoking critical thinking and inspiring creative responses, rather than simply imparting information? Eager to work with others in co-designing curriculum and programs? Adept at creating inviting, inspiring and challenging learning environments for students? Value social/emotional learning as highly as academic pursuits? Aware that powerful learning emerges from positive relationships within a supportive community?

If you answered yes to the above, then you may find Blue Gum the best place for nurturing and stimulating your professional and personal development as a teacher and as a learner! We are currently looking for dedicated primary and early childhood educators (full-time or part-time), for our beautiful not-for-profit Preschool and Primary School in Sydney’s North at Blue Gum Community School. Paid Internships also available. Our community school currently consists of a 32-place Preschool and a 48-place K-2 school, in Hornsby NSW.

We seek educators who see themselves as participants with children in the educational process - people who are able to be creative, independent thinkers, with a heart for community and thinking with others. Our practice is founded on best-practice, benefitting from the long history of our Canberra school, rich theoretical understandings of education and childhood, and our extensive experience working with children and adults of all ages. We are inspired by the work of the educators in Reggio Emilia who recognise schools as sites of culture and see children as citizens of the present, not some distant future, with rights and responsibilities. Experience researching alongside children and documenting children's learning processes, through shared projects, would be highly valued.

Our primary school classes boast a 1:12 ratio of educators to students, with group sizes capped at 24, in multi-age classes. Each of our two Preschool classes has a teaching team of 2-3 educators working with 16 children. We keep our ratios to 1:8 (lower than the regulated 1:10) to ensure our programs are rich and our relationships are strong. Our Preschool families have several booking options - 2, 3 or 5 days per week; either for school hours (9am-3pm) or full days (8am-6pm).

Knowledge of emergent or negotiated curriculum, inquiry based learning, and social constructivist approaches to learning, is desirable. Inspiring reference points include the Reggio Emilia experience, Positive Psychology and Nature Education.

Applicants must be Australian residents.

For more information about our story go to: bluegum.nsw.edu.au
